Prof. Angelo Mtitu Mapunda

Prof. Angelo Mapunda is a highly specialized commercial and corporate law. He possesses unassailable skills and knowledge on procedural laws, specifically procedures applicable in the High Court and the Court of Appeal of Tanzania. He, single-handedly conducted a review of the Court of Appeals Rules 1979, culminating into the enactment of the Court of Appeals Rules 2009. He is an expert in strategic litigation and is keen at defensive litigation approach. On substance law, he practises in the areas of banking, commercial entities, international commercial transactions, mining law, investment law, arbitration, structuring international state-investor agreements, and real estates to mention a few. Prof. Mapunda has successfully acted for major UK, US, Australian, USSR, Japanese and Chines corporate clients in his areas of expertise, and he is among the most respected legal minds in Tanzania.

Besides legal practice, Prof. Mapunda lectures undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University of Dar es Salaam, and lectures on part-time basis in various higher learning institutions in Tanzania. He conducts continuing legal education workshops for the Bar on diverse areas of practice. Prior to joining FK Law Chambers, Prof. Mapunda had served as a partner at Law Associates Advocates (1990 - 1993; and, International Law Chambers (1993 – 1995). He has intensively researched and published in areas of commercial law; legal profession; arbitration; joint ventures in Tanzania; Land Law; and competition law. He has provided high profile trainings and facilitating high profile seminars on various aspects of law. His outstanding achievement in legal practice reflects his level of commitment to quality and professionalism. He serves as a member of the Council of Legal Education; the Judicial Service Commission; and Audit Committee of the Fair Competition Commission.

Career

Over the years of practice, Prof. Mapunda has successfully acted for and appeared in courts of law representing clients on various disputes. He is currently engaged in advising, attending and providing services on intellectual property for SNR Dentons UK LLP and SNR Dentons UK LLP; Dentons UK LLP and Dentons UKMEA LLP; Salans FMC SNR Denton Group (a Swiss Verein); Dacheng Salans FMC SNR Denton Group (a Swiss Verein); Dentons Group (a Swiss Verein) in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar; and Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited.
